SIDNEY — An investigation into an early morning fire at a mechanical plating and galvanizing facility in Sidney is underway.
According to the Sidney Department of Fire and Emergency Services, the fire was reported at Mechanical Galv-Plating Corp. on Oak Ave., just before 5:50 a.m. on Saturday.

Upon arrival, crews found heavy smoke in the building and traced its source to a fire in the rear of the business. The fire was located at a metal coating application process work area. The fire was contained to that area.
Fire Chief Chad Hollinger said all off-duty Sidney Fire personnel, as well as Anna and Lockington fire departments were called for mutual aid.
According to a release, Hexavalent Chromium and other chemicals utilized in the plating operation were released by the fire and were contained onsite.

Crews notified the Ohio EPA and they will be working with the company to ensure the necessary clean-up actions take place.
The business has been shut down for the holiday and no injuries were reported.
While a fixed dollar loss has not been determined to the business, Hollinger said losses are anticipated to exceed $100,000.
