Crews from several fire departments responded to the house in the 3000 block of state Route 122 around 7:40 a.m. Wednesday after the blaze was reported.

Firefighters reported when they arrived on scene that flames and smoke were coming from the chimney area and under the roof of the home, Franklin Twp. Fire Chief Michael Hannigan said.

Due to extensive damage caused by the fire and by crews who worked to extinguish it, investigators believed the house is a total loss, Hannigan said.

The occupants of the home, two adults, children and a pet, all were able to safely evacuate and were not injured.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

State Route 122 was shut down in both directions west of state Route 123 while firefighters battled the blaze.
