Pen of goats killed in large barn fire in Miami County Monday morning

MIAMI COUNTY — UPDATE: 8:30 PM

Piqua firefighters told News Center 7 that a pen of goats died in the fire that occurred on North Fairview Road near Snyder Road around 7:30 a.m. Monday morning.

A baby goat that was born last night was also said to have been killed in the fire.

The goats were reportedly being warmed by a heat lamp, but the official cause of the fire is not known yet, said firefighters.

The barn was completely destroyed and received 80,000 dollars in damages.


INITIAL REPORT:

Firefighters reported heavy smoke and flames were shooting from a large barn in Miami County, east of Piqua, Monday morning.

A deputy discovered and reported the fire at the property on North Fairview Road near Snyder Road around 7:30 a.m., according to emergency scanner traffic.

Initial reports indicate the barn housed some animals but no people were inside.
