SIDNEY — Firefighters, police and deputies rescued a couple from a balcony at their home overnight as crews battled a fire on Oak Ridge Drive.
The fire happened in the 600 block of Oak Ridge around 2 a.m., trapping the couple inside a bedroom of the house, Sidney firefighters said.

Sidney firefighters arrived to find “fire showing from the front of the residence and heavy smoke coming from the remainder of the house and eaves,” investigators said. “Fire crews, along with law enforcement, were able to rescue the elderly couple from the balcony while a hose line was deployed to extinguish fire on the front of the house and attic.”
The woman was treated and released from Wilson Health and the man who was rescued was taken to Miami Valley Hospital.
A cause of the fire has not been determined, but it caused over $100,000 in damage.
There was a lack of fire hydrants due to the fire being in a rural area, so tankers from nearby departments assisted with bringing in water to fight the flames.
