Firefighter injured while responding to house fire in Darke County

GREENVILLE — A firefighter was injured while responding to a house fire in Darke County Sunday morning, according to the Greenville Fire Department.

The fire occurred at a house in the 500 block of Washington Avenue in Greenville around 8:40 a.m.

Firefighters saw smoke and flames coming from the back of the house when they arrived on scene, according to Greenville Fire Department Lieutenant Bryan Walker.

Crews were able to extinguish the fire a short time later.

The Greenville Fire Department said a firefighter responding as mutual aid sustained a non-life-threatening injury.

Medics transported the firefighter to Wayne Hospital.

It is unclear which department the injured firefighter is from or how they were injured.

A second alarm was called for the fire, meaning additional crews responded to help.

Walker said firefighters with the Greenville Township Fire Department, New Madison Volunteer Fire Department, Gettysburg Rural Fire Department, Liberty Township Fire Department, and Arcanum Fire Department helped on scene.

Versailles Fire Department crews staffed the station while Greenville firefighters were responding.

Washington Avenue from Pine Street to Front Street was temporarily closed as fire crews battled the flames.
