Body found in Dayton garage fire debris

DAYTON — UPDATE @ 1:55 p.m.

One person was found dead after a garage fire in Dayton Thursday morning.

Dayton firefighters responded at 5:58 a.m. to Victor Avenue on reports of a structure fire.

Assistant Dayton Fire Chief Brad French said the garage was heavily damaged and had mostly collapsed.

“During overhaul and final extinguishment, crews discovered a deceased human body in the debris,” French said.

Dayton Police and the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office were then called to the scene.

No other injuries were reported.

The identity of the person found has not been released at this time.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
