The first crew that arrived on scene found smoke coming from the attic area of the two-story home so they immediately began to fight the fire, Dayton Fire Department Captain Brad French.
The fire was contained quickly and damage was limited to the second floor and attic area.
An estimate for the cost of the damages is unknown at this time, French said.
The Dayton Fire Department Investigations Unit determined the cause to be electrical.
A fire alarm successfully alerts the residents of a fire and they were able to get out safely, French said.
DFD encourages everyone to have working smoke alarms on each level of their home, inside and outside of each sleeping area.
Crews were on scene for approximately two hours.
