2 businesses damaged after early morning fire in Dayton

Two businesses are damaged after an early morning fire in Dayton.

Dayton firefighters and police officers were dispatched at 2:39 a.m. to the 900 block of Patterson Road on initial reports of a structure fire.

News Center 7′s Xavier Hershovitz is providing LIVE updates from the scene on News Center 7′s Daybreak.

Photos and video from the scene show heavy smoke when Hershovitz arrived and two businesses suffered heavy damage.

“We had pretty heavy fire showing at the back at the center part of this (building). We tried to make it inside the structure and the fire was too heavy,” said David Wright, Dayton Fire District Chief.

He said firefighters had to fight the fire in a defensive operation and the roof of one of the businesses collapsed.

“It looks like the firewalls have kept it from going left to right,” he said. “We think we’ve got two businesses affected.”

Wright said firefighters are expected to be there for most of the morning.

Both businesses were closed at the time of the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Several firefighters have responded to a fire at a Dayton business early Thursday morning.

Dayton firefighters and police officers were dispatched at 2:39 a.m. to the 900 block of Patterson Road on initial reports of a structure fire.

Video and photos from the scene show heavy smoke at a business. The front of one business suffered heavy damage.

A fire chief told Hershovitz at the scene that conditions were so bad that they could not get inside.

Initial scanner traffic indicated that heavy fire came from the back of the building.

Dayton Police have also blocked traffic at Wilmington Pike and Patterson Road.
