Red Cross assisting, second floor damaged after Dayton house fire

The Red Cross is assisting after a fire damaged a Dayton house Wednesday morning.

Dayton firefighters responded around 4:50 a.m. to the 800 block of Osmond Avenue on reports of a house fire, according to Dayton Assistant Fire Chief Brad French.

Upon arrival, crews found smoke showing from a one-and-half story house.

They found the fire on the second floor of the house and quickly extinguished it, French told News Center 7.

The Dayton Fire Department (DFD) Investigations Unit determine the cause of the fire was electrical in nature. Preliminary damage estimates are pending.

No injuries were reported.

The Red Cross is helping the residents.

French said the home had no working smoking detectors.

The department says people can participate in their free smoke/carbon monoxide detector program.
