Bethel Township firefighters were dispatched around 5:18 a.m. at the 100 block of E. Main Street on initial reports of a mobile home fire.

The fire started in the rear of the structure and spread to a van, according to fire officials at the scene.

The Bethel Township fire marshal told News Center 7′s Taylor Robertson at the scene that one person was killed in the fire.

The victim’s neighbor of 40 years, Jarvis Kettlehake, told News Center 7 he woke up to a phone call informing him that his neighbor had died in the fire.

“I couldn’t believe it, he’s a good man,” Kettlehake said. “He’s a real good neighbor, he was in poor health.”

Kettlehake said the man was in his 70s, and due to his health declining the past two years, he cut the man’s grass for him.

“He’s got daughters and sons. He’s going to be missed, he was a good man,” Kettlehake said.

The fire chief said they will not know what started this fire until they are done with their investigation.

We will continue to provide updates on this developing story.

Correction: A previous version of this story indicated the fire started in a vehicle and then spread to the mobile home. However fire officials said the fire started in the mobile home then spread to the house.
