Cause of vacant house fire in Dayton under investigation

DAYTON — Firefighters responded to a vacant house fire in Dayton early Friday morning.

Around 12:35 a.m. Dayton Fire Department crews were dispatched to South Jersey Street on reports of a structure fire.

When firefighters got to the scene, they found an outside fire burning on the exterior wall of the house with the fire beginning to move inside, according to Dayton Fire Assistant Chief Brad French.

The fire was quickly controlled and no injuries were reported.

A Montgomery County Regional Dispatch Sergeant confirmed that the house was vacant.

iWitness7 Viewer footage shows some residual smoke, as well as a burnt mark on the outside of the house on the second floor.

The fire and its cause remain under investigation.
