MIAMI VALLEY — The 2020 census hasn’t started yet and is already causing confusion

A letter showing up at Miami Valley homes is identified as a the “congressional census.” But the letter is not from the Census Bureau.

At first glance, the letter looks like it’s from the government. There are a lot of questions on the two-page form, and the return envelope looks official.

The letter is actually from the Republican National Committee, not the federal government. The census bureau is now working to cut through any confusion.

“The census will never ask you for your mother’s maiden name, political party affiliation, bank account number and social security number,” said Rose Simmons with the U.S. Census Bureau.

A media campaign is in the words to tell residents more about the census forms that will be coming to their homes.
