A former assistant prosecutor admitted to sexual assault; he was just sentenced to 30 days

DAYTON — The former Montgomery County assistant prosecutor accused of sexual assault has received his sentence.

Amos was sentenced to 30 days in jail and will be a Tier I sex offender after pleading guilty to one count of sexual assault. He also has to sign a no-contact order with the victim.

He was also sentenced to five years of community control, or probation. He must also pay court costs and pay a $500 fine with the rape crisis center.

Amos must also be assessed for complete sex offender treatment.

It is also required that a license violation notice be sent to the Ohio Bar.

Amos was charged in July 2022 in connection to alleged actions that took place at a bar and Amos’ home in 2013, during Amos’ 22-year tenure at the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office.

A spokesperson for the prosecutor’s office previously told us that their office was made aware of the criminal investigation into the allegation in June 2020. In February 2021, the prosecutor’s office was notified that a police report had been completed.

Amos resigned from his position after his indictment last July.

News Center 7′s policy is not to identify victims of sex crimes unless they agree, and Amos’s victim did that in powerful comments to the judge.

Andrew Ball said his last 10 years have been a nightmare. The depression from his assault that happened after a night of shooting pool in a bar with friends and new acquaintances.

“Amos brought us drinks, the next thing I knew it was morning and I was waking up in an unfamiliar bed,” Ball said.

Ball said his memories of what happened were the opposite of what Amos told him, but several years later he knew he had to reach out to a sexual assault hotline, then talk with law enforcement.

He said his ordeal then got worse. The case had to be moved away from the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office because of potential conflicts. It would be two years and three prosecutors’ offices later before Amos was charged with five counts of rape.

Amos eventually pleaded guilty to one count of misdemeanor sexual assault.

“Amos has become an expert in violent crime but he is not above the law, for 10 years he’s avoided consequences for his actions,” Ball said.

Amos took advantage of his opportunity to speak and said he did not try to prolong this case.

“I don’t offer any excuses, I pled guilty, I am guilty,” Amos said.

Ball is glad the case is at an end but wanted to make sure Amos served time for his crimes.

“He deserves maximum jail time, he deserves to be forced to register as a sex offender for 15 years,” he said.
