Franklin police investigate theft of money from high school

FRANKLIN — Franklin police are investigating a theft of money from Franklin High School in which a former school employee is believed to be involved.

Franklin City School District officials reported a theft to police on June 10, according to an incident report filed that day.

According to the report, police are investigating a misdemeanor larceny allegation, but no amount is listed on the incident report. That day a detective went to the district’s Central Office at 150 E. Sixth St. regarding the investigation.

“We have an active, open investigation for theft,” said Police Chief Russ Whitman. “No charges have been filed, but time is on our side.”

This news organization is not identifying the former employee under investigation because that person has not been charged with any crime.

Franklin School Superintendent Michael Sander said the former employee’s resignation was accepted by the Franklin Board of Education at its June 24 meeting.
