Firefighters from multiple departments responded in a mutual aid effort to the 7100 block of state Route 571 east at around 12 p.m. on reports of a structure fire, News Center 7 crews at the scene confirmed.
Firefighters reported heavy smoke and fire coming from the building, initial traffic on emergency scanners said. The house was fully involved, causing firefighters to take defensive action when attempting to manage the fire.
As the flames expanded, live ammunition began to trigger and fire off in the rear of the house, authorities stated on emergency scanners.
Later, firefighters were notified that grenades were inside the burning house, News Center 7 crews confirmed.
Non-essential firefighters at the scene were advised to remain at a safe distance due to the hazard.
The fire eventually collapsed the roof.
