Mark Robert Campbell, 44, died in a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Dixie and Dryden Road on April 11.

News Center 7 previously reported that West Carrollton police and fire were dispatched to the intersection at 12:54 p.m. after receiving reports of a crash. As emergency responders arrived, they discovered that a sedan and truck were involved in a crash. The sedan, driven by Campbell, sustained heavy damage throughout, evident from footage taken at the scene.

Campbell was declared dead at the scene, while the truck’s driver suffered major injuries.

In remembrance of Campbell, his family scheduled a visitation for the public, set for Wednesday at 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Jamestown United Church of Christ on West Washington Street, according to his obituary.

A funeral service at the same church is scheduled the day after, on Thursday, starting at 11 a.m.

His burial is set to take place at Grape Grove Cemetery.

Campbell was born in Xenia on October 21. His death was preceded by his mother, Patty Jo Dershem, and father, Robert Campbell.

He was a loving husband, father, brother, and uncle. His service to the community was also remembered.

“I was absolutely in shock on the whole thing. I just felt like I could collapse,” James Spahr, a fellow Ross Township trustee, said. “We’re still in shock and so saddened and everything. Such a wonderful young man.”

“Everybody in Ross Township knows each other,” Spahr continued. “Lots of great people out there that they care a lot about each other. Everyone’s suffering.”

“He knew how to connect with the younger upcoming residents of the community and really was engaged and a pillar of our community,” Gary Bogan, Ross Township’s fiscal officer, said. “We were just together Monday and just how quick someone can walk out the door and that’s the end of it.”

West Carrollton continues to lead the investigation into the crash.

“It’s going to be a lengthy investigation,” Chris Fairchild for West Carrollton Police said. “We’re getting cooperation from some witnesses that were there. We would encourage the community to reach out if they were anywhere near the scene.”
