Gas prices rise as the war in Ukraine continues; Expert talks about the local impact

MIAMI VALLEY — As the war in eastern Europe continues, the impact can be felt here at home.

In the last week, the price for crude oil has shot up to more than $100 a barrel, and experts predict the conflict will continue to inflate prices.

Last week, the average price for gas in the area was around $3.17.

News Center 7′s Dontre Drexelius spoke with Patrick De Haan, an expert with Gas Buddy, about the future of gas prices and how it could impact your wallet.

“If all of the worst potentials are realized, we could see prices in Dayton briefly flirting with $4 a gallon. So that would be another big jump, about a 75 cent jump compared to where we are today,” De Haan said.

He went on to say the bigger increases are going to be the seasonal increases.

The demand for gas will likely go up as we go into the summer, De Haan explained.

An increase could also be seen as refineries undergo seasonal maintenance ahead of the summer.
