Grandson indicted for murder of grandmother in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD — A Springfield grandson was indicted today on murder and felonious assault in connection to the death of his grandmother, who police said was punched at least 25 times during an assault last month.

Justice D. Rollins, 19, is accused of attacking his grandmother, Patricia Thompson, at her home on North Isabella Street on Aug. 12., according to an affidavit file in Clark County court.

According to the court record, Rollins and Thompson had been arguing and Rollins had been beating and choking Thompson’s dogs.

“Thompson stated that Rollins began punching her about the head and face while they were inside the house,” the affidavit read. “She stated that she was punched 25-30 times.”

Rollins is accused of continuing to assault Thompson outside the house, where court records said Thompson told police he “came up behind her and punched her in the head, knocking her down.”

“When Thompson fell down, she hit her head on the bottom concrete step, causing her to lose consciousness," court records read.

Thompson has since died and her body is at the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office. The coroner’s office ruled she died from multiple blunt force injuries and her death was ruled a homicide.
