Halted construction of historic Troy building not expected to impact Strawberry Festival, city says

TROY — This year people attending Troy’s Strawberry Festival will notice some changes and it’s all centered around a historic building that’s partially torn down.

West Main Street in Troy will be blocked over the weekend.

“Plan ahead. We encourage people to use our shuttle stops,” Kathi Roetter, executive director of the Troy Chamber of Commerce said.

But Roetter doesn’t think the road work or blockage by the historic Troy building will be a problem.

“It’s not interrupting the flow of traffic at all,” she said.

Neither do others like Christine Clayton, who was out decorating for the festival on Tuesday.

“It’s cool to be able to do something unique and different,” Clayton said.

She said traffic is something she used to and it won’t keep her from having a good time.

“Just regular living around the area hasn’t really bothered us,” she said.

No agreement on what to do about the historic building has bothered some people.

“(Would) like to have a decision on it,” Roetter said.

But lifelong resident Joan Lambert agrees with the current safety measure.

“There’s a lot of controversy, but I t think they are taking the proper precautions,” Lambert said.

She also welcomes construction.

“We need the streets repaired,” she said.

She can’t wait to enjoy the festival Saturday.

While the road work might make it a bit more difficult to get here this weekend, officials think making the trip will be worth it.
