Darlene Hensley’s two donkeys, Zeb and Ellie, became emotional support animals for the community.
Zeb and Ellie were attacked by dogs in their pen on Dec. 12, according to a previous News Center 7 report.

Zeb was taken to a vet hospital at Ohio State University, where he continues to recover.
“We all know Zeb is an exceptional fighter with a huge heart and spirit. After all, he fought off two pit bulls for almost an hour, while in extreme pain and shock from massive injuries. He does not quit,” Hensley said.
Ellie is recovering in the same stall as Zeb and isn’t pulling off his bandages.
Zeb will undergo jaw surgery soon, according to Hensley.
But over the next 72 hours, he will face another battle.
One of the deep wounds in an infected joint has started healing, but veterinarians are watching out for a possible infection.
“If there are live bacteria in that joint that is now enclosed with healing tissue and those bacteria start to reproduce again, a dangerous infection will occur. This will be a very disastrous complication,” Hensley said.
If this doesn’t happen, Zeb will be getting out of the ICU soon and heading home.
“Our hats off to the excellent care Zeb is being given by the staff at OSU,” Hensley said.
A GoFundMe created to help pay the medical bills and a new stall for Zeb has passed $69,000.
