Witnesses told deputies that a northbound pickup truck crossed the center line and hit a southbound semi.
The driver of the pickup, identified only as a 44-year-old Darke County man, was trapped in his vehicle after the crash and it took firefighters around an hour to free him, Sheriff Simpson said.
He was taken to Kettering Preble ER with “very serious” injuries but was conscious. He was later flown to Miami Valley Hospital.
The driver of the semi, identified only as a 58-year-old Lima man, was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Deputies are working to learn why the truck driver went into oncoming traffic. As reported on News Center 7 at 5:00, the sheriff said they currently don’t have any evidence that the pickup driver was impaired.
US 127 between Eaton and Interstate 70 was closed for several hours while an investigation was conducted.
