‘Heavy fire’ rips through apartment building in Dayton

DAYTON — Firefighters are battling a fire at a Dayton apartment building Monday morning.

Around 8:30 a.m. Dayton firefighters were called to East Third Street and North Keowee Street for reports of heavy smoke coming from a vacant apartment building.

When crews arrived on the scene they reported heavy fire from the second floor of the building.

In a 911 call, a woman tells dispatchers that the fire is “spreading quickly” and that she saw a man leave the building shortly after seeing flames.

Montgomery County Regional Dispatch said crews on the scene noted they were “out with a suspect” but could not confirm if anyone was in custody.
