‘Helping now is important;’ Local doctor launches website to raise money for children in Ukraine

As the world tries to hit Russia in the wallet, a Dayton Children’s doctor is asking you to open up yours.

Doctor Kambiz Kamian, the Chief of Neurosurgery at Dayton Children’s has launched a website to raise money for children still in Ukraine.

It comes as Russian soldiers continue to attack and kill civilians.

Kamian’s wife is Ukrainian, and his mother-in-law recently came to live in the U.S.

Her family gives him first hand accounts of the tragic circumstances.

“There are kids dying very easily, not because of bombs, bombing is part of it, because they don’t have access to food, fresh water, clothes, anything,” Kamian said.

He started the website to help raise money for children still in Ukraine who no longer have parents around.

Kamian said a $50-dollar donation will feed a child for seven days.

“At this point I want to keep those kids alive, at least until next week,” Kamian said.

Though he has a sense of urgency, he worries people are losing interest in this story.

“Not the top of the news anymore, but still the lives are in danger every single second, so helping now is important,” Kamian said.

Even though the war is far from homes here in the Miami Valley, it is still destroying the lives of those in Ukraine.

“Because of this peace and because of this freedom that we have, and because we care about the other people, we all need to help,” Kamian said.

Kamian said the website has already raised $34,000.
