CINCINNATI — A homeowner accidentally set his house on fire while trying to melt ice on Sunday.

Firefighters responded around 7:40 p.m. to the 600 block of Hawthorne Avenue in Cincinnati on reports that a man set his home on fire while trying to melt ice on his outer steps with a propane torch, according to our news partner WCPO in Cincinnati.

The fire spread vertically to the attic.
Smoke also spread throughout the home, but the fire was limited to the building’s outer walls, firefighters told WCPO.
Firefighters extinguished the fire and estimated damages are almost $100,000.
No one was hurt.
The firefighter department reminded everyone to be cautious when using heating appliances.
