Homicide detectives investigating after 4-year-old child dies in Ohio

COLUMBUS — Homicide detectives are investigating after a young child died in Ohio Monday morning, according to our media partners WBNS-10 TV.

Columbus Division of Police officers were called to an apartment complex in the 900 block of Eaton Avenue in Franklinton around 7:40 a.m. on reports of a non-responsive child.

WBNS-10 reports that the child was burned by hot water, but it is unclear if that is connected to their death.

Officers said the child was taken to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in critical condition.

They were pronounced dead at 8:18 a.m., according to WBNS-10.

An officer on scene said the child was 4 years old. It is not clear if the child was a boy or a girl.

The child’s mother was detained but later released.

Police believe the child’s death was accidental, but the Homicide Unit will investigate.

It is unclear how the child was burned or how they died.
