DAYTON — Honor Flight Dayton has made the decision to cancel fall flights, citing the increase of COVID-19 cases and the Delta variant as the reasons behind the difficult decision.
Al Bailey, Honor Flight Dayton Director and President, told News Center 7 that he wanted to make sure the Honor Flights happen when it will be a safer environment.
“[We’re] waiting a few months to make sure this Delta variant settles down and we have a better control on the veterans and other people getting vaccinated,” Bailey said.
Jim Smith, a Vietnam Veteran, agreed with Bailey’s decision and said it showed leadership. Smith said they have known several people who have gotten COVID-19.
“We had a coupe good friends that have been hospitalized for several weeks,” Smith said.

Bailey said the decision will keep veterans from running the risk of catching Covid and bringing back to their relatives.
For veterans who were looking forward to their next flight, Bailey said he wanted them to know that they “remain strong and will pick this up and we will go aggressive as soon as it is safe.”
