Police and fire department leaders unveiled the brand new project for the city on Monday.
As reported on News Center 7 at 5:30, the project was started about five years ago. It’ll honor the 31 fallen police officers and the 17 fallen firefighters from Dayton.

The signs recognizing the police officers will be along Third Street, while those for the fallen firefighters will go along Main Street. Each will have the name of a fallen first responder.
“As you see their names on the signs about our streets, I humbly ask that we remember that sacrifice and honor their legacy,” Stephen Post, of the International Association of Fire Fighters, said on Monday.
Several city leaders were also on hand for the announcement, including Dayton Mayor Jeffrey Mims.
“I know very well the challenges that families and friends and loved ones have when they have lost a loved one,” Mims said.
He added that as a Vietnam Veteran, this project especially resonates with him.
“Make sure we do everything we can to respect them,” Mims said. “Show respect for their families and for other loved ones, as well as letting the citizens know how important we think these individuals are.”
The signs are expected to be up in the coming weeks.
