COVID-19 testing sites are still open all around the Miami Valley but they are not nearly as busy as they once were.
Now people are flocking to vaccination clinics.
We spoke to Dr. Roberto Colon, the Chief Medical Officer at Miami Valley Hospital, to better understand how the vaccine protects you from the virus.
“That’s the first thing to know, it is not a foolproof method,” said Dr. Colon.
He emphasizes that both the Moderna and Pfizer vaccine tested, and demonstrated in actual use, effective protection rates above 90%.
He went on to say, “(the vaccines) are effective at preventing illness, they are, so far, effective at preventing severe forms of illness even more so.”
Doctors are encouraging everyone that is eligible for vaccinations to book an appointment when they can.
Dr. Colon says researchers are conducting large studies to provide more answers about what those that take the vaccine should expect.
We can be relieved that the vaccine is preventing those that take it from most illness, especially severe illness from COVID-19.
He urges everyone to maintain all social precautions even after they are vaccinated.
