How hot can summer weather make the inside of a car?

Summer heat can potentially lead to dangerous or even deadly results inside a car.

Dozens of children die every year from being left inside hot cars. The scariest part about that statistic is it only takes a few minutes for a car to heat to unhealthy levels.

On an 80-degree day, the temperature inside a car can climb to nearly 100 degrees in 10 minutes.

>> Heat index: what is it?

The temperature can go to more than 100 degrees in 20 minutes and to a boiling 123 degrees within an hour.

One mistake made is thinking a rolled down window will help to keep a car cool. Unfortunately, it's not enough to counteract the greenhouse effect that allows the inside of a car to heat so quickly.

>> Muggy this morning, but the weekend could bring some relief

The greenhouse effect is a process in which the sun's rays warm your car and become trapped inside the vehicle.
