DAYTON — A Huber Heights man kicked off 2023 by being the first blood donor in the area, but for him, it was just another day.
William “Wes” Westmoreland said he didn’t expect to be the first donor of the new year.
The Community Blood Center in Dayton was closed on New Year’s Day so Westmoreland stopped in early Monday morning, according to a release by CBC.

“This was my plan, to get a nice 7 in the morning platelet donation and be off to the races if you will. It’s a triple, so that’s why I wanted to come early since it does take a while.” Westmoreland said according to a release.
He has been donating platelets since 2010 and made eight donations in 2022. He was a blood donor prior to his 50 donations with CBC.
Westmoreland is a USPS mail carrier for the North Dayton post office.
Donors must be at least 17 years old, required to provide a photo ID with their full name and must weigh a minimum of 110 pounds, the CBC said.
