Huber Heights man sentenced to prison after deadly Mechanicsburg crash

CHAMPAIGN COUNTY — A Huber Heights man has been sentenced to prison after a crash in Champaign County in September that killed a Mechanicsburg man.

According to Champaign County online court documents, Jeffrey Burnette, 57, was convicted of aggravated vehicular homicide and OVI on Dec. 9.

Burnette was sentenced to a minimum of eight years in prison.

Police said Burnette was driving drunk when he hit and killed Charles Rutan Jr., 59, near a gas station on State Route 4 in Mechanicsburg. The crash happened the evening of Sept. 16.
