“Unless, the family is currently bottle feeding these puppies, we are worried that without their mother they are not getting the proper nutrition and care they need. We want to help with this situation to ensure both the mother and the puppies remain healthy and safe,” the shelter spokesperson said in the media release.
Humane society officials said while its illegal to abandon a dog in this way, they are not seeking the woman for potential prosecution, and are more concerned about the health of the puppies.
“After reviewing the camera footage it is clear that she was upset with the situation she was in and we believe she was trying to do the right thing, but went about it the wrong way. We do not want to villainize this woman, we are more concerned for the wellbeing of the puppies at this time,” Brian Weltge, President and CEO of the Humane Society of Greater Dayton said in the release.
