Husband killed, wife injured after car crashes into Preble Co. pond identified

ISRAEL TOWNSHIP — A College Corner man is dead and a woman is in critical condition after a car crashed into a pond in Preble County early Sunday.

Jamie Rogers, 50, was identified Monday afternoon as the person killed in the crash, according to Preble County Sheriff’s Office. He was the driver at the time of the crash.

His wife, Bonita, also 50 years old, was transported to Ft. Hamilton Hospital. We’re working to learn an update to her condition.

Just before 3 a.m., the Preble County Sherriff’s Office was called to a car in a pond on State Route 177, according to a media release.

When deputies arrived on scene they found the couple inside the car and under water.

Deputies along with fire crews pulled the couple out of the car and began CPR.

An initial investigation found that the car was traveling northwest on SR-177 when it traveled off the side of the roadway. It then traveled several hundred feet through a field before coming to rest in a farm pond.

Since the car was submerged in water multiple agencies were called to the scene including crews from Camden, Medflight, College Corner, Butler County, Oxford, Gasper Township, and Monroe.
