MONTGOMERY COUNTY — Residents in Riverside, Trotwood, and Vandalia may see discolored water for the next month due to annual hydrant testing.

Flushing is done each year to inspect the hydrants and water system for proper operation.
The Division of Fire will begin its annual fire hydrant flushing today in all three of the cities in Montgomery County through the entire month of May. Riverside residents can expect testing to occur from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
It is not uncommon to notice discolored water after the hydrant flushing. The flushing helps clear the pipes of mineral deposits, which if allowed to accumulate, could affect water quality.
“If you notice rusty or discolored water, please allow your water to run until the water clear”, officials said in a release.
Should Vandalia residents notice clothing that has been affected by discolored water during washing, they are urged to call the Vandalia Fire Administration at (937)898-2261, and someone will bring them a packet of rust remover.
Trotwood Fire and Rescue and the Montgomery County Water Department no longer offer rust removing detergents.
Hydrant Flushing will be completed for the city of Vandalia by June 1, will end the week of June 7 for Riverside, and will be completed by June 14 for Trotwood residents.
