‘I realized nobody was there;’ Woman waiting at urgent care locked in after staff leaves for night

RICHMOND, Ind. — A trip to urgent care went wrong after one woman realized she and her daughter had been locked in by staff after they left for the night.

As News Center 7′s Brandon Lewis reported a routine trip to get checked out took a scary turn.

Sydney Heck said she took her 6-year-old daughter to Reid Health Urgent Care as she wasn’t feeling well.

Heck said a nurse took her daughter’s vitals and tests then said a doctor would be in shortly.

But Heck claims that no one ever came back to their exam room.

She poked her head out of the exam room and saw an empty lobby.

Relief came when the cleaning crew arrived and then Reid Health police.

“How could they forget about a patient especially when the patient was a child? I’m just baffled, shocked, confused about the whole situation myself,” Heck said.

A spokesperson for Reid Health issued a statement saying they are conducting a “thorough investigation” into the incident:

“Providing a safe environment for our patients is core to Reid Health values. Upon learning of this situation that evening, Reid took swift action to address the immediate needs of the patient. The organization is currently conducting a thorough investigation and cannot provide any additional information at this time.”
