Hundreds of people lined up in their cars Thursday to buy the last boxes of Mikesell’s Dayton-made potato chips.

Traffic got so bad Dayton police had to get involved.

News Center 7′s Kayla McDermott was there as people were waiting and got their thoughts on the new Mikesell’s chips after being bought out by a new company.

“I wasn’t expecting this. I really thought the early bird gets the worm,” said Paul Walter, from Sidney.

“They were always the best chips. Those are always the ones I wanted,” said Gail Laphong, of Dayton.

Now that Mikesell’s has been bought by Conn’s Potato Chip Company, some are nervous the chips will be different.

The regional manager of Conn’s, who worked for Mikesell’s for close to four decades, assured News Center 7 the Mikesell’s chips by Conn’s taste the same.

“When the consumer buys this product, they’re gonna be very excited to taste the real Mikesell’s,” said Mark Plummer, Regional Manager of Conn’s Potato Chips.

People News Center 7 spoke with Thursday said they couldn’t tell the difference between the new chips and the original chips.

“They smell similar… They got it. They got it,” Laphong said.

They all loved the Mikesell’s chips by Conn’s and said they would buy them, but they still waited for boxes of the original Dayton product.

“It’s the last one we’re gonna get so it was worth the wait,” said Josel Hastings, of Troy.
