A vehicle that fled from a traffic stop near Miamisburg led the Ohio State Highway Patrol on a pursuit resulting in numerous cruisers getting damaged and a trooper being injured.

Last Thursday, troopers received a broadcast that during a Miami Township Police Department traffic stop, a male passenger moved to the drivers seat of a 1997 Cadillac and fled the scene around 1 a.m.

The driver, Robert Bergman, 28, of Brookville, is accused of being impaired and in possession of illegal drugs at the time of the incident, the patrol said.

Shortly after Bergman drove off from the traffic stop, troopers spotted the car traveling south on I-75 near Monroe and tried to stop it.

The vehicle refused to pull over and attempted to flee from the trooper.

Cruiser camera video obtained by News Center 7 through a public records request shows what happened during the more than 20 minute pursuit.

The Cadillac is seen onto westbound State Route 129.

Once on State Route 129, the vehicle abruptly stopped in the roadway and did a U-turn in the middle of westbound lanes.

Before getting completely turned around and going the wrong way in traffic, the trooper used his patrol car to block and push the fleeing suspect into the ditch.

The Cadillac was pushed off the roadway, but was still able to get out of the ditch going through the median and getting back onto the eastbound side of State Route 129 heading east towards I-75.

Troopers said Bergman continued the pursuit and entered back on I-75 northbound, while also avoiding stop sticks at the State Route 63 exit.

In order to try and stop him from driving the wrong direction, troopers used their cruisers to block and push the Cadillac into the concrete wall.

The Cadillac was spun into the right direction on the highway, but withstood the impact and continued north on I-75 until exiting at the State Route 123 Franklin exit.

Bergman, continuing to drive erratically, and attempted to drive his car into the cruisers, troopers said.

OSP said troopers “boxed” in the Cadillac, but the driver was able to back out while driving in reverse through town.

Troopers were able to completely stop the Cadillac once reaching the intersection of First and Main St. in Franklin.

Bergman then attempted to run, but was quickly stopped.

The pursuit resulted in numerous cruisers being damaged and both Bergman and a trooper being taken to Atrium hospital with minor injuries.

Bergman was taken to Butler County jail later that morning.

Franklin, Monroe, and Middletown Police Departments assisted with the incident.
