HARRISON TOWNSHIP — Two people died after their vehicles crashed into each other head-on, then into the concrete median on Interstate 75 in Harrison Township Sunday overnight.

The Harrison Township substation of Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and the Dayton post of Ohio State Highway Patrol were dispatched to Interstate 75 northbound near Needmore Road at 1:48 a.m. on reports of an injury crash, Montgomery County Regional Dispatch and a spokesperson for state troopers said.
A 2006 Cadillac DTS traveled south in the northbound lanes and struck a 2010 Kia Forte, traveling north, head-on, the spokesperson said. Then, the two vehicles crashed into the concrete median and sustained heavy damage, dispatch informed. During the collision, one of the involved vehicles “spun around.”
A northbound 2017 Nissan 4 door also sustained minor damage after being involved in the crash.
There were reported injuries, prompting medical units to respond to the crash, dispatch said.
The drivers of the Cadillac and Kia were killed upon impact, the spokesperson informed. Their identities were undisclosed pending the notification of the victims’ next of kin.
The Nissan’s driver did not report any injuries.
Interstate 75 northbound was shut down beyond Needmore Road due to the crash, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation. The on-ramp to the highway from Needmore Road was also shut down while first responders handled the crash site.
The Dayton post of Ohio State Highway Patrol led the investigation into the incident. They were assisted by Harrison Township Fire Department, Vandalia Police Department, Ohio Department of Transportation, and the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.
