JEFFERSON TWP. — As many as nine people were detained in connection to a possible “chop shop,” but only one of those people were arrested, according to investigators.

The investigation was centered in the 5000 block of Altrim Road. Police were in the area around 9:30 a.m.

The person arrested is in jail for an unrelated warrant.

The investigation is connected to a carjacking at the Dayton Mall on Nov. 23, Miami Twp. Police said.

Police said while serving a search warrant they had to shoot a dog that became aggressive. The dog died.

Fifteen dogs were seized during the investigation, but later returned to the owner.  The owner was cited for failing to license the dogs, an Animal Resource Center spokesman said.

The Humane Society of Greater Dayton and Animal Resource Center assisted Miami Twp. police and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

A “chop shop” is typically where stolen cars are taken to be disassembled. Parts are then resold.

Police have not yet said whether any of the people being detained would be arrested or face any charges.
