VANDALIA — An investigation is underway after part of a nativity scene and a church van caught fire at a Vandalia church on Wednesday.

According to Vandalia police, officers were dispatched to Hopeland Church on a report of a fire. Upon arrival, it was discovered that several bales of straw were set on fire within a nativity scene.
Officers also located a church van that had been set on fire and scorched on the inside. The van also had the rear window broken, according to police.
According to a police report, police have a possible suspect, however no charges have been filed.
The case is being investigated by the Fire Marshal along with the Vandalia Division of Fire.
