The City of Springboro’s Utilities Department offered some suggestions on social media to keep your home safe with these temperatures below freezing:

  • Disconnect garden hoses- Remove hoses from outdoor spigots to prevent freezing.
  • Drain irrigation systems- Turn off and drain your system to protect it from damage.
  • Secure exposed plumbing- Keep garage doors closed if your meter or plumbing is in a garage or exposed area.
  • Prevent Pipe Freezing- If your home has a history of frozen pipes, consider letting one faucet trickle slightly overnight.
  • Locate your water shut-off valve- Be ready to turn off your water immediately if a pipe freezes or bursts.
  • Check vulnerable areas- Identify unheated spaces like basements, crawl spaces, or outside walls that are most at risk for freezing.

Our Storm Center 7 team of meteorologists said we will see air temperatures below zero Wednesday morning and wind chills near -15 degrees.
