- Disconnect garden hoses- Remove hoses from outdoor spigots to prevent freezing.
- Drain irrigation systems- Turn off and drain your system to protect it from damage.
- Secure exposed plumbing- Keep garage doors closed if your meter or plumbing is in a garage or exposed area.
- Prevent Pipe Freezing- If your home has a history of frozen pipes, consider letting one faucet trickle slightly overnight.
- Locate your water shut-off valve- Be ready to turn off your water immediately if a pipe freezes or bursts.
- Check vulnerable areas- Identify unheated spaces like basements, crawl spaces, or outside walls that are most at risk for freezing.
