“Maybe the crime will go down and everything else will go down, but I don’t know,” Copeland said.
The latest, a double murder, two people were found shot inside an apartment on Stewart Street.
A trend neighbors want to see go away.
For Jamel Gay Sr., the place is a piece of his history, his earliest memories were spent here.
“I can remember everybody at the time ... we was family. It was family,” Gay said.
Greater Dayton Premier Management is the company in charge of the tearing and rebuilding process.
News Center 7 reached out to the company for a comment but did not receive a response.
Gay is skeptical this will reduce crime in the Bass because he feels it’s a bigger problem.
“Everything on the west side has always been that way,” Gay said.
But he is still hopeful and wants to see the transformation.
“They building it better, I believe they will build it better,” Gay said.
The plan is to tear down Desoto Bass in sections, replacing them with new housing in the next 10 years.
