Hurricane Ian is on the move, and one Miami Valley woman decided to wait out its wrath from Florida.
At the Dayton International Airport, scheduled flights into and out of Florida were canceled. Andrea Hershberger, from Eaton, found the airline had canceled her flight as well.

Hershberger was on a Disney vacation with her brother, but she didn’t change her plans, opting instead to ride out the storm.
She said she felt safe the entire time, but knows Hurricane Ian hit other parts of the state much harder.

“Our heart just breaks for those people, and we’ll certainly keep them in our thoughts and prayers, but at the end of the day we’re really lucky that we fared it well. We felt very safe,” Hershberger said. “We never at one time felt like our safety was in jeopardy, we literally hung out with our neighbors.”
Although, she can still see the storm’s destruction.
“It does look a little bit like a war zone in terms of, you know, of tree debris and things like that,” Hershberger said.
It wasn’t quite the site seeing she had hoped for, but memorable nevertheless.
“It wasn’t the Disney vacation that we planned for, but it was still a great Disney vacation,” Hershberger said.
Hershberger told News Center 7 she is going to try to get a flight out on Saturday.
