DAYTON — A break-in at a popular restaurant has left the owner wondering who would target her business and steal possibly thousands of dollars.
News Center 7′s Kayla McDermott spoke to the owner of the restaurant about what’s missing on News Center 7 at 5:30 p.m.
The door to Massaman Thai Cuisine in Dayton was smashed in this morning.
Not only was the money in their register stolen but the whole register was gone.
“We are working hard. We don’t have money to lay out,” said the restaurant’s owner, Pakawan Christman.

When Christman first saw her front door she thought someone drew a heart on the door.
“After we came closer, I said, ‘No, it’s not a heart, someone broke in!” she said.
The burglar did not stop there.
“They broke in my office and they broke my door and they just stole money,” Christman said.

She says when we combine the money stolen from the register, her office, and the damages, she’s out well over a thousand dollars.
“They’re messed up,” said Christman said.
This restaurant is not the only place burglarized recently. Right across the street has also been hit.
Rick Schaefer, owner of Brock Masterson’s Catering and Events, said their big box truck was broken into.
“They were empty except for those two checkbooks and before I had a chance, even canceling they started trying to cash them,” Schaefer said.
The owner thinks it’s too much of a coincidence they were both targeted in the same week.
“It would be very surprising if it wasn’t because of how it’s all clustered together,” Schaefer said.
Christman said despite the burglary she was lucky. Her credit card system still works, so customers did not mind coming through the unbroken door.
News Center 7 has reached out to Dayton police to see if any suspects have been identified. We will continue providing updates.
