‘It’s just amazing;’ Carillon Park eagles welcome triplets

DAYTON — Orv and Willa, the Carillon Park eagles are parents once again. This year, it’s triplets.

Orv and Willa are on the move as people with cameras trying to get the perfect shot of them.

“If you’re not having luck, just look around for someone with a camera and see where they’re pointed,” Andy Kavalauskas said.

Right now most cameras are pointed at their nest.

“She’s resting right on top of there. That’s where she’s about to feed the first to babies,” Victor Thomas said.

Everyone wants to see those babies.

This year it’s triplets which eagle expert Jim Weller said only happens about 20 percent of the time.

“Just about a month ago, they were 3 inches long. Now they’re about 2 feet tall and already have a 4 or 5-foot wing span,” Weller said.

Weller said by the end of this month the eaglets will be as big as their mom and dad.

By mid-June, they’ll take their first flight.

“To have wild bald eagles nest right here in the park and of all things nest right about the 1905 Wright Flyer III, it’s just amazing,” Weller said.

Because Orv and Willa are used to all the activity at Carillon Park people will have the chance to see it all.

As for their names? For right now they are “one, two, and three.”

Carillon officials are working on finding the best names that fit the eaglets.
