SPRINGFIELD — Newly released 911 calls detail moments after a large fire broke out at a Springfield trucking company early Friday morning.
Springfield firefighters responded to the fire at US Xpress Inc. in the 800 block of West Leffel Lane shortly after 5 a.m.

Over a dozen people called 911 to report the fire.
“There was an explosion in the body shop,” one caller told dispatchers. “There’s flames coming out of the roof, it’s really bad.”
“It’s lighting up like crazy,” another caller said.

Multiple people driving along I-70 also called 911 to report the fire.
“It definitely looks like flames sitting on top and a whole bunch of smoke,” a caller told dispatchers.
Springfield Assistant Fire Chief Matthew Smith says they were able to confirm there was an explosion inside the building.
The cause of the explosion is unknown at this time and is still under investigation.
No one was inside of the building at the time of the explosion, and no injuries were reported.
