WILBERFORCE — Central State University President Jack Thomas has announced he will be stepping down from his role as president.
Thomas announced this decision in his letter to the university community on social media.
“Having accomplished what I set out to do as President, I have informed the Board of Trustees that I will not seek renewal of my contract. After taking an education sabbatical I plan to continue serving the students of Central State University as a tenured professor,” the letter read in part.
Thomas has served as president since July 1, 2020.
CSU Board of Trustees Chair Mark Hatcher issued the following statement in response:
“Today, Dr. Jack Thomas informed the Board of Trustees that he is not seeking renewal of his contract as president of Central State University. The board thanks Dr. Thomas for his service to the university and the progress that the university has made during his time as president. The board will immediately begin plans for a search for Dr. Thomas’ successor. ”
Late last year an investigation was launched into Thomas’ behavior after multiple women accused him of creating a “toxic work environment.”
The outside investigation found no evidence of discrimination, harassment or violations of university policies, but did note issues related to his leadership style, according to the university.
“President Thomas’ leadership style as it relates to the complainants may be characterized as rude, belittling and bullying, but does not rise to the level of harassment,” the report’s summary of findings stated.
Hatcher said that Thomas will remain president through the end of his term on June 30.
