DAYTON — Police arrested a man they said shined a laser at an airplane participating in a ‘gun reduction initiative” last week.

Nicolas Alexander Sanchez-Escobar, 45, faces a felony charge of interfering with operation of aircraft with laser. He is out of jail on bond.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol Aviation Unit was in the area of 1110 N. Gettysburg Ave. around 11 p.m. July 2 when Sanchez-Escobar was accused of committing the crime.

“While flying, the plane was struck with a high intensity laser beam multiple times,” a court affidavit said. “The Tactical Flight Officer was able to follow the laser to the address.”

OSHP aircraft video footage showed the crime happening and then shows at least a half dozen cruisers swarm the house to arrest Sanchez-Escobar.

Sanchez-Escobar was arrested at his home on Hacket Drive in Jefferson Twp.

The 45-year-old was walking out a workshop at the rear of a carport when he was taken into custody.

The laser pointed was found in the workshop and was still warm from being used, according to police.
