Joe Burrow named AFC Offensive Player of the Week after historic touchdown passes

CINCINNATI — Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week for his historic performance in the team’s 35-17 win over the Atlanta Falcons Sunday.

Burrow made three touchdown passes that were for 30 or more yards, including a 60-yarder to wide receiver Tyler Boyd two minutes into the first quarter, a spokesperson told News Center 7.

With this game, Burrow has 12 touchdown passes consisting of 50 yards or more since entering the league in 2020, which is four more than any quarterback in that span. This achievement ties him with “Pro Football Hall of Famers Dan Marino and Fran Tarkenton for the most touchdown passes of over 50 yards by a player in his first three seasons in NFL history,” the spokesperson said.

Sunday also marked “Burrow’s fifth career game with over 400 passing yards, surpassing Marino,” who has four, during their respective first three seasons, the spokesperson affirmed.

Burrow led the NFL in Week 7 with his completions, passing yards, passer rating, and his passing yardage total, which was third-most in a single game in Bengals history.

The quarterback also became “the third player in NFL history with at least 475 passing yards, three touchdown passes, and one rushing touchdown in a single game, joining Norm Van Brocklin (1951) and Billy Volek (2004),” the spokesperson said.

Overall, Burrow completed 34 of 42 passes for 481 yards, and three touchdowns for a passer rating of 138.2.

This is Burrow’s third career AFC Offensive Player of the Week award.
