OREGON DISTRICT — Gunfire rang out in the Oregon District just one day before the fifth anniversary of the 2019 mass shooting that killed 9 people and injured nearly 30 others.

As reported on News Center 7 at 11:00, Dayton police received reports of shots fired in the Oregon District after 1 a.m.
In a 911 call obtained by News Center 7, a woman told dispatchers that she heard three shots fired in the Omega Music parking lot.
“I didn’t see who did it, there were three shots fired that I heard from the patio of Oregon Express,” the caller said.
She immediately called for others to take cover.
“Lock the door, lock the door!” the caller said.
A Dayton officer issued a county-wide call for backup around 1:45 a.m. while chasing a man who witnesses said fired a gun into the air, according to a previous News Center 7 report.

The suspect drove off in a vehicle and officers followed for a short time before the pursuit ended.
No one was injured in this incident.
News Center 7′s Malik Patterson spoke with people in the Oregon District Saturday night.
Dayton resident Aubrey Medlin said she comes to the area about once a week.
After finding out about the shots fired incident, Medlin said she was “surprised but not at the same time.”
“Just sad, sad that it’s still happening,” she continued.
Medlin said she remembers what she was doing when the mass shooting happened five years ago.

“I was camping when that happened, and I found out a little bit later, and it was just a feeling of helplessness,” she said.
Mendlin doesn’t want these issues to stop people from enjoying the Oregon District.
“That’s just really disappointing because I don’t feel unsafe when I’m here,” she said.
